While the LVT(A)-1 provided much need extra firepower its small turret and armament was a short coming.
The result was to fit a M8 howitzer turret instead of the M5A1 turret, this required a major redesign of the deck as the turret ring was too small. While the increased firepower was much needed the open top of the turret proved a big problem as did the remove of the two 30.cal gun positions.
Production began in 1944 and went on into 1945 with 1890 vehicles being produced. 533 to the US marines 1307 to the US army and 50 to the US allies through lend-lease.
Our model is a one piece resin hull, including tracks and a resin turret. It also comes with two two crew in the turret (one moulded in place) and a white metal 50.cal machine gun. Supplied unpainted
